30 Americans at the Cincinnati Art Museum

(Cincinnati, OH) - I took a guided tour this week of the traveling 30 Americans exhibit which is now showing at the Cincinnati Art Museum. The theme I took away from the mixed-media show was simply 'we belong'. I saw artists that just wanted to be able to create what they see, who they are and want they want to say with no qualifications.  It's not about race.  It's just about being yourself.

The exhibit contains many forms of Contemporary Art and Modern Art.  The media used ranges from paint to pot holders.  The art is sometimes abstract and sometimes controversial.  There are some lesser known artists and more well-known artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat.

I personally was impressed, moved and also disturbed by the exhibition.  All of the pieces may not be suitable for all ages.  So, be sure to considered that before attending and be prepared to explain and/or discuss the pieces with younger attendees.

30 Americans has traveled to locations including the Detroit Institute of Arts; the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Va.; the Milwaukee Art Museum; and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Curators reconceive the exhibition at each venue, selecting different artworks by the same group of artists. This presentation of the exhibition is co-curated by Rehema C. Barber, Director and Chief Curator, Tarble Arts Center at Eastern Illinois University, and Brian Sholis, Curator of Photography, Cincinnati Art Museum. At the Cincinnati Art Museum 30 Americans is on view free of charge from March 19 - August 28, 2016.

Now, go view the rest of the collection in-person where it can be best appreciated.

~ safe travels ~

  1. This is a great venue. I was here for a party and there was so much food and it was all done so well! The decor and food from event venues were amazing. Personally, I think the space is laid out really well and the size of the venue keeps pulling great parties.
